Mariette Artine is a multi-media self-taught artist who combines her love of painting with the art of storytelling and performance on multiple platforms.

Inspired by the colors and textures of her grandfather's art,  she grew up using sketching and storytelling as her expressive language.  At the age of 17,  her art history teacher introduced her to French modern art.  Subsequently this became a life-long preoccupation,  connecting French art history, with the act of art making.  Her current body of work is inspired by and pays homage to the French expressionists of the early 1900s.

Mariette is also the creator of the original,  "Kiki's Artists & Lovers" Art Tours (TM), where she  channels Kiki de Montparnasse (Alice Prin),  lover of photographer Man Ray, and model/muse to many artists of the 1920's Paris including Kisling, Mendjisky, Foujita, and Jean Cocteau.  Partly performative and  educational, a time-travelling Kiki is the art history guide who invites guests on a private, curated tour at Los Angeles area museums, including Norton Simon and LACMA.  Selected art works are presented and discussed, offering unique insights into the lives of notable artists living in France.​​

Artist Statement:

I have always admired the post impressionists and Fauvists for their use of bold colors and unconventional methods.  Concurrently, the worlds of art, poetry, literature and theatre were converging in a way never before seen, by so many ex-patriate artists settling in Paris of 1920s.  In that vein, my art pays homage to those places and time.   My visual and performance pieces are moments that bring the viewer both joy and fun.  I enjoy watching collectors connect with my work, and feeling a bit of that nostalgia for themselves.
